I am back from Otakon and before I go off and do some other responsible shit, let me tell you about my first time in the East Coast everrrr!
First off- The East Coast is super green. Very green. IT’s like a leafy cacophony of foliage out there. At least the trip from the BWI to the convention center. ANd the convention center down to DC. Trees trees treestreestrees trees trees. Koreans would eat that shit up.
Second- The people in Baltimore were really friendly! By that I mean the general public I interacted with (con-goers were their own brand of pleasant and lovely!). The people at Starbucks, the dude at the convenience store, the lady at the Kinko’s… Everyone was just really straightforward and down-to-earth and so friendly and casual, but not “fake”. I felt really comfortable there despite stories of inner-city crime and whatnot, though I hear the downtown area near the harbor is nicer than surrounding areas. In any case, they were cool and I liked talking to them.
Also, this story from the light rail:
-Dude sitting by himself on light rail-
-Sassy woman and her friend come in looking for seats-
(To the man by himself): Hey there, teddy bear, mind if I sit next to you? (He gets up to let her sit). Mm! I do love me a big man.
-Dude is still glued to his phone, doesn’t even give a shit-
I THOUGHT IT WAS HILARIOUS OK. She was just so damn forward about it hahaha. Also they spent the time talking about their kids. She seemed very proud that her children were girthy. But anyway.
Third- The con itself! It was nice. But damn, them AA hours are brutal. At any other con, 4PM would’ve meant time to relax a little, but at Otakon, 4PM is like barely halfway over. But I didn’t feel too fatigued by it because everyone was SUPER FRIENDLY AND ENTHUSIASTIC AND SO HAPPY and that made me happy too. I met some people from the internet who were OBSCENELY GENEROUS and some people even recognized me from online which did wonders to my already over-inflated ego. If I go drunk with internet celebrity power, it is all on you guys. ALL ON YOU.
Some people even bought my original stuff which made me so happy. Even though my fanart was by far my best seller, the satisfaction of someone buying my original stuff is more than enough motivation for me to try drawing more of it (which will be a godsend when next year rolls around ahaha). Regardless, everyone who stopped by to buy things to to talk were just… So…. wonderful…. ;~;
Also did you know that Starbucks’ Refreshers areMOTHERFUCKING DELICIOUS?!
Anyway, shoutouts to my tablemate and confidant when it comes to all sorts of inappropriate and lurid conversations, SOOYUNNNN, also EMI and MATT and KAREN for keeping this weekend gangster as hail.
More shoutouts to ELLEN, EMILYYOUKAWAIITHING, LEXXY WHO I FORTUNATELY DID NOT SPAGHETTI MYSELF TOO BADLY OVER, SUSANMYADORABLEWIFE, and CHIOUWHOIMETATKINKOSYAY.
So yeah. Otakon was great. I’m definitely going to try to make next year. It’s such a good way to end the summer con season!!
And now for a mature and responsible adult life update- With Otakon, I made enough over the summer to cover my grad school tuition for the fall! At least the first quarter of it!! I feel so accomplished!!!!! AHHHH!!!!!
I’m gonna go out tonight and drink and party to celebrate (Jk I don’t really party but I will still definitely drink).
I also hit a follower milestone so I’m gonna do a giveaway real soon! REAL SOON AS IN I AM GOING TO GO ORDER NEW PRINTS NOOOOWWWWW SO I CAN GIVE THEM AWAY YAASSSSsss
